Day 17 of 80

A Shower of Roses

Epilogue·Manuscript C·Death & Heaven
Context
Thérèse spoke these words in her final illness. The 'shower of roses' became her most famous promise — that she would not rest in heaven but would spend eternity helping those still on earth. It is the reason we pray to her.

I have never given the Good God aught but love; it is with Love He will repay. After my death I will let fall a shower of roses.

I feel that my mission is soon to begin — my mission to make others love God as I love Him . . . to teach my little way to souls. If my wishes are granted, I shall spend my Heaven doing good upon earth. Yes, I will spend my Heaven doing good upon earth. This is not impossible, since the Angels, in the midst of the Beatific Vision, watch over us. No, there can be no rest for me till the end of the world.
